Investing in the future: the modernisation of our machinery is progressing steadily

Laser schneidet Metallblech mit sichtbarem Funkenflug

Over the past year and this year, we have consistently invested in modernising the machinery and equipment at our plants in Berlin, Trebbin, Klettgau and Schönecken. This is part of a comprehensive strategy, says PohlCon Managing Director Oliver D. Gessert:

“With this medium- and long-term approach, we are actively investing in our future – regardless of the current economic climate. In this way, we are laying the foundations for sustainable growth, high product quality and long-term economic success.”

Greater performance and higher efficiency

At the Berlin plant, for example, the tried-and-tested ladder welding line No. 2 – which has produced around one million welded ladders – has been supplemented by a further line that has been fully modernised from a technical perspective. Optimised set-up times, higher welding speeds and more user-friendly operation ensure significant efficiency gains.

Investments in Trebbin have been particularly substantial in the area of manufacturing JVA facade brackets. The new laser system can now process significantly thicker materials of up to 40 millimetres. Furthermore, it is considerably faster than its predecessor: a laser process now takes only around twelve minutes, compared with approximately one hour previously. The modernisation is complemented by a semi-automated blasting system and a new, fully automated cobot welding cell, which enables maximum precision, flexible programming and consistent quality. A new bending press is also set to follow in the future – this will mark the culmination of the complete overhaul in this product area.

Investments with a long-term vision

At the Klettgau plant, too, a new contour cutting machine is delivering noticeable improvements – it is used for the prefabrication of products in the fields of thermal insulation, formwork and sound insulation. Higher cutting speeds, shorter set-up times and an optimised material flow significantly boost productivity. At the same time, staff benefit from a quieter working environment and improved extraction technology.

In Schönecken, two new hydraulic presses with pressing forces of 315 and 250 tonnes respectively are significantly expanding production capabilities. They are mainly used for the manufacture of semi-finished products for cable support systems, but also for the production of FERBOX® storage boxes. Thanks to larger press tables, larger tools can be used than before, thereby combining several production steps. The site will also soon be taking delivery of a new 5-axis milling machine.
