In the Black Country, a construction consortium working on behalf of Transport for West Midlands is designing and constructing a new 11 km metro line for Midland Metro Alliance. As a branch of the main Birmingham–Wolverhampton line, it will run from Wednesbury to Brierley Hill. The scheme, the biggest light rail project being delivered in the UK, will be delivered in two phases with completion of the first section is planned for 2026.
PohlCon supported the project with its reinforcement products. The synergy effect of our group of companies came into full play here: PohlCon Germany supplied the necessary material, while PohlCon UK was available on site as a direct contact partner.
Our FIBERNOX® V-ROD GRP reinforcement was used in the switch area of the newly constructed junction. The non-magnetic and non-conductive material made of glass fibre reinforced plastic enables the highly sensitive electronics, installed in that area, to operate without interference. Thanks to its corrosion resistance and alkali resistance, it is a durable, low-maintenance and cost-effective product. A total of 5,100 kg of straight and curved GRP reinforcement in various lengths and diameters was installed.
PohlCon is delighted to have successfully completed another infrastructure project and to have enjoyed professional cooperation with its customer and partner MPB Structures Ltd.
