In July 2021, unimaginable masses of water hit the Ahr Valley in the Eifel region. Even months after the catastrophe, the consequences are unmistakable and reconstruction is far from complete. Destruction, dirt, and construction vehicles full of debris are an omnipresent image and a daily reminder of the shocking experience for residents of the Ahr Valley.
The flood swept away much of the surrounding area, people, animals and life's dreams - a situation that has left children in particular deeply shaken. They in particular need a safe, secure and carefree environment. But they are still surrounded by building dryers, bare walls and rubble that were once schoolrooms and children's rooms.
Heartening projects for the Ahr Valley
The Fortuna hilft e.V. association is dedicated to these children and their families. Under the leadership of Klaudia Skodnik, volunteers support the countless victims in the flood area. With the help of donations, they buy everything that is urgently needed on site. Whether winter boots, gas heaters or school supplies - the association members personally travel to the people and provide them with the many large and small things that were taken for granted before the flood.
Due to the proximity of our site in Schönecken to the Ahr valley, many colleagues* still have the consequences of the flood in their minds. As a group of companies, we do not want to look away and support Fortuna hilft e. V. in its task with a donation of 10,000 euros. The association will use the money to buy a circus wagon and redesign it so that it becomes a place of retreat for the children, where they can play undisturbed, read and process what they have experienced.
"They make children's hearts light up"
The wagon will be set up as part of a therapy project in the Ahr Valley, where it will offer the children a positive space with plenty of room to dream. "We thank the Christmas angels of PohlCon for giving traumatized children a chance to feel security and lightheartedness with the circus wagon Kinder(T)Raum," says Klaudia Skodnik. We are delighted that our Christmas donation is helping to realize this important project and would like to take this opportunity to thank the Pohl family for making this donation possible.
