In November 2023, Deutsche Bahn AG completed the renovation work on the Horchheim Tunnel, which was built in 1902. As part of the intensive refurbishment, not only the tracks and the entire inner tunnel shell were dismantled and rebuilt. Work was also carried out on the inner tunnel shell, the overhead line, the portals and the height and length of the structure.
In August 2021, the main construction work began on the 583 m long tunnel system, for which Deutsche Bahn once again relied on anchor channels from PohlCon. The JTA K 28/15 anchor channel, the JTA W 53/34 anchor channel as a curved anchor channel pair and predetermined breaking bolts were used to secure the overhead lines.

The stainless steel rails are characterized by a lower weight with a constant load level as well as the high corrosion resistance class CRC III. They also impress with their time and cost-saving installation without drilling but using screws, the possibility of small edge distances and simple compensation of construction tolerances.
The tunnel is now state of the art and meets all modern safety standards. Rail traffic between Koblenz main station and Koblenz Ehrenbreitstein was successfully resumed at the beginning of November 2023.
