Research for practice. In the course of this core idea, PohlCon GmbH and the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (UAS) have already been working together successfully for several years. Now our company and the university are moving even closer together. In a newly founded competence campus of the university, the "House of Science and Transfer" (HoST), a regular exchange for research cooperation takes place between Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mazen Ayoubi (Team Leader Research JORDAHL & Professor of Building Materials Science at Frankfurt UAS), Sophia Saile (Market Development Manager Elevator Shafts) as well as other PohlCon colleagues, students and important industry representatives - an ideal space to expand the transfer between theory, research and practice more strongly and make it tangible.
PohlCon elevator insulation JAI in field tests
The close link between research and teaching is also reflected in the fact that every year students are given the opportunity to conduct their theses in cooperation with PohlCon. This makes it possible to carry out component tests under real conditions and to incorporate the results into the respective bachelor and master theses. The current case is a project in the field of elevator insulation in three identical existing buildings of a residential complex in Karlsruhe, whose old elevators were replaced by new ones. In one of the buildings, the elevator system in the shaft head was additionally equipped with JAI elevator insulation - a component for safe sound decoupling from the PohlCon brand JORDAHL.
Last semester, two UAS students, Nadeem Ahmed and Rajni Kakkar, whose bachelor theses were supervised by Prof. Ayoubi and Sophia Saille, conducted various measurements, analyses and tenant surveys on elevator noise levels in elevator facilities, with and without the elevator insulation. The main topics were "Impairment of residential quality by elevator systems and acoustic insulation measures" and "Acoustic insulation measures to prevent airborne and structure-borne noise transmission in the elevator shaft".
Teamwork for the future
The demand for their high quality and the constant focus on customer needs are also decisive after the installation of the components. Through further scientific investigations, expert opinions and field measurements, PohlCon ensures their quality in the long term and uses the knowledge gained for next research projects. The results from the project show clear differences between the elevator systems with and without elevator insulation JAI. The measurements could prove that with the JAI an effective acoustic decoupling takes place and the sound propagation is significantly reduced than without the PohlCon elevator insulation. The product solution was thus once again able to meet the highest sound insulation requirements in direct testing under real conditions, thus proving the high quality standard of our construction products.
The close cooperation between PohlCon and the university's KompetenzCampus is to be expanded even further in the future. This should not only lead to product innovations, but also to potential new employees and customers.
