The coronavirus pandemic meant the temporary end of many events. This was also the case for the Fire Protection Days, a series of events organized by PohlCon and Datwyler IT Infra on the topics of fire protection and functional integrity. This year, the long wait came to an end. The cooperation partners hosted lectures and lively discussions with experts in four cities.
During the event, many questions were answered and uncertainties clarified. This is no easy task, as the subject of fire protection and functional integrity is highly complex and multi-layered. Planners, architects and building owners are faced with a seemingly endless number of regulations, standards, laws, approvals and exceptions.
Functional integrity according to DIN 4102-12
What are the basic requirements for functional integrity in accordance with DIN 4102-12? What are the differences between the MLAR model line system guideline and the LAR or RbALei guidelines introduced separately at state level? What are the provisions of the general building authority test certificates (AbP) for suspended ceilings in the event of fire?
Erik Vogler was the right contact person for these and many other questions about functional integrity in accordance with DIN 4102-12. Vogler is the head of technology and product development for the expansion and cable routing division at PohlCon and has been our Fire Protection Days speaker from the very beginning. He impressed the audience time and again with his wealth of knowledge and experience.
His explanations were perfectly complemented by the expertise of his colleagues from Datwyler. Peter Pardeyke and Olaf Sieper - who have also been with us since the start of the Fire Protection Days - are professionals in the field of cable systems with integrated functional integrity.
Trust is good, control is better
Building owners are repeatedly advised to seek advice from experts during the construction process. This is because if defects are only discovered at the time of building acceptance, this can lead to a high expenditure of time and money. Checking for possible defects, damage or non-permissible deviations is of vital importance in terms of fire protection and maintaining the functionality of a building.
Experts and lawyers were invited to the events in order to give these topics appropriate space. Whether Dipl.-Ing. Daniel Müller from TÜV Süd, Michael Ulman from KK Fire Inspect or the specialist lawyers for building law Dr. Thomas Thaetner and Wolfgang Junghenn: Their extensive input was greatly appreciated by everyone involved, especially as the legal aspects of fire protection and functional preservation are often only considered when it is already too late.
The fire protection days
The event clearly showed how many questions the topic of fire protection and functional integrity still raises. PohlCon and Datwyler are therefore all the more pleased that many gaps in knowledge could be closed with the help of the presentations and discussions. More safety in terms of safety - this claim and this goal of the Fire Protection Days was fulfilled for everyone involved.
