FIBERNOX®, the GFRP reinforcement from PohlCon, is characterized by its high corrosion and alkali resistance, low thermal conductivity, no electrical conductivity and easy machinability. It also has a high tensile strength with low weight and a strong bond with the concrete.
FIBERNOX® meets the highest standards of quality and versatility and is used in a wide variety of applications where steel reinforcement reaches its application limits. A current example is the construction project at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI).
Cryostat room
The world-renowned Swiss institute is the country's largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences. Its research work focuses on future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and the fundamentals of nature.
Construction of the new Quantum Matter and Material Center (QMMC) began in 2024. One of the rooms in the center is the cryostat room. The walls and ceiling as well as the 1 m thick floor slab of the room were reinforced with FIBERNOX® V-ROD reinforcing bars. Straight and stirrup-shaped bars were used, which, as non-magnetic non-conductors, do not influence the test results of the cryostats. A total of 23 tons of reinforcement material was used.
We can be proud that PohlCon is involved in the implementation of this prestigious construction project. An achievement that shows how much we and our products are appreciated. The success of this collaboration is a strong motivation to continue supporting and promoting responsible and sustainable construction.
