Frankfurt am Main is a metropolis in constant growth and change. This is particularly evident in the many conversions and redesigns in Frankfurt's city centre. A current example of the strong infrastructural change is the innovative FOUR project.
FOUR stands for a modern high-rise quarter - a building complex with four futuristic towers up to 233 metres high. The project is characterised by both the endeavour to build in a resource-saving way and a high demand for functionality and aesthetics. By the time it is expected to be completed in 2023/2024, a lively centre with 600 flats, office space and hotels, gastronomy, retail and green spaces will have been created.
Building for the future
Propertymanagement mbH Groß & Partner began civil engineering work on the quarter, which is unique in Europe, in 2019. During this construction phase, the floors in the underground were constructed using the cover construction method with two bracing concrete slabs. These rest on the primary supports and the diaphragm wall, which was erected as excavation shoring in 2020. After the underground work was completed, the shell construction of the high-rise buildings started in 2021.
Success through synergy
Various products from our brands JORDAHL and H-BAU Technik were already used during the civil engineering section. JORDAHL supplied the JDA punching shear reinforcement for the construction project - a structural element that is ideally suited for transferring high support forces in flat slabs. A decisive advantage is that it can be used for all column positions and shapes and, due to its higher load-bearing capacity than conventional reinforcement models, it achieves a significantly lower construction height. A special model of the reinforcement was produced for the demanding structural requirements.
The diaphragm wall joints between the floor slabs and walls of the buildings were sealed with the help of PENTAFLEX® ABS formwork elements - also custom-made - by the brand H-BAU Technik. The weather-resistant sealing product guarantees unrestricted, reliable use of the structure even in the case of water under pressure. In addition, FERBOX® backbend connections by H-BAU Technik were used. The product solution ensures a force-fit connection of the various reinforced concrete parts in a wide variety of load and installation situations.
The FOUR high-rise quarter continues to grow in height and will change the Frankfurt skyline and the city's urban living culture.
