Whether in restaurants or industrial halls, hospitals or tunnels, office buildings or airports - energy cables and data lines have to be routed from A to B everywhere. The PohlCon brand PUK has been convincing for over 50 years with versatile product solutions for flexible, safe, economical and clearly arranged cable routing in technical building installation. The associated preventive fire protection plays an essential role in building planning.
Safe escape routes
The routing of cables in escape routes, the so-called escape route installation, is an important aspect in the event of an emergency. According to the building regulations, at least one escape and rescue route is required, depending on the type of building. Other escape and rescue routes are necessary stairwells and corridors as well as exits to the outside. Support systems that carry cables in these rooms must remain stable for a sufficiently long time in the event of fire so that escape routes can be used without danger. In the PohlCon product portfolio you will find systems for cable installation in intermediate ceilings. Our product solutions meet the requirements for the protection of F30 suspended ceilings specified in the MLAR Model Guideline on Electrical Wiring Installations: When using our cable support systems, escape routes can be used safely for at least 30 minutes in the event of a fire.
Maintenance of function in case of fire
Even if the building is in flames, important installations must remain functional, e.g. lighting or fire alarm systems, extinguishing equipment or smoke extractors. To ensure that the power supply to these installations can be guaranteed, the cables together with the corresponding support systems must be able to withstand the effects of the fire for a while. For this so-called maintenance of function in case of fire, PohlCon offers normed supporting constructions tested according to DIN 4102-12 as well as specified support systems in accordance with the Model Guideline –for passing of several as well as single cables.
You have the choice
According to the standard, the normed supporting constructions are specified for three installation variants: The cable is routed on cable ladders, on cable trays or as a single installation under the ceiling by means of cable clamps or vertically on the wall by means of vertical ladders and cable clamps. In the case of normed supporting constructions, you can choose the cables freely, provided the maintenance of function has been proven by the cable manufacturer in combination with the normed supporting constructions with a general building inspection test certificate (AbP). At the same time, however, normed supporting constructions are more installation and cost-intensive than the specified support systems. The latter are cheaper and easier to assemble. However, with specified support systems, there is a direct dependency between the cable support system and the cable manufacturer. Cable and support structure cannot be freely combined with each other. Here, PohlCon offers solutions for multiple cable installations in particular.
